T-Mobile Employee Kenitra Williams Named Ashford University's Outstanding Alum of the Month

When Williams first heard about Ashford University during a benefits fair at work, it had been nearly two decades since she had been in school. That 19-year break would prove to be both her biggest obstacle and her greatest motivation when she decided to return to school to pursue her master's degree.

"My undergraduate degree…was actually in information technology, which is still the field that I work in, but I was interested in moving into management within the company and I felt this was a good match and a good opportunity for me," she explains.

Williams' employer, T-Mobile, participates in Ashford's Leader Development Grant* program. With this program, T-Mobile's tuition assistance benefits combine with a grant from Ashford to cover the costs of earning a degree.

"I believe T-Mobile really cares about their employees and they want us to be the best we can be. It's the main reason, I believe, they have done this partnership with Ashford," Williams says. "You have a great support system at the company: your managers, your other team members who are probably right there with you."

Williams completed her master's degree in 2017 and attended the commencement ceremony in San Diego. She reports that she has already been able to apply many of the concepts she learned at Ashford to her current job as a Principal Systems Analyst at T-Mobile, and she sees her new degree as a springboard to even greater things.

"I was able to complete my degree at Ashford with a 4.0, even with all that's on my plate, so I kind of feel like Superwoman a little bit, like there's nothing I can't do," says Williams.
