Tacombi Celebrates 20 Years With New Fall Menu Rooted in the Street Tacos That Started It All
The Mexican hospitality brand marks two decades since its beginnings in a Volkswagen Combi in Playa del Carmen with new street tacos, the debut of Ribeye and Pollo Yucateco, and the return of beloved menu favorites
MIAMI, Sept. 23, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Twenty years ago, Tacombi began with a converted Volkswagen Combi parked along the beaches of Playa del Carmen, serving tacos from its side window with a simple idea at its core: great food brings people together.
Two decades later, that same spirit remains at the heart of Tacombi as the brand celebrates its 20th anniversary and Hispanic Heritage Month with a new fall menu that looks back to where it all began while introducing what comes next.
At the center of the new menu is a renewed focus on the street taco, a direct connection to Tacombi's earliest days, when it served tacos from the Combi. New permanent offerings include Beef Birria, Al Pastor, Baja, Crispy Fish and Carne Asada street tacos, alongside the debut of the Ribeye Taco and Pollo Yucateco. The fall menu also welcomes back favorites including the Mushroom Quesadilla, bringing familiar Tacombi dishes together with a new generation of menu staples.
The street taco has been part of Tacombi's story since day one. Before the neighborhood taquerias, before expansion across the United States, there was the Combi, the comal and tacos served simply by the beach. The anniversary menu brings that history forward, placing the street taco prominently back into the conversation as Tacombi enters its third decade.
The anniversary arrives during Hispanic Heritage Month, giving Tacombi an opportunity to celebrate not only its own milestone but the Mexican food traditions, regional flavors, and hospitality that have shaped the brand over the past 20 years.
What began in 2006 has since grown into neighborhood taquerias across New York City, Miami, Chicago, and the Washington, D.C. area, with Tacombi continuing to build around the same idea that started it all: approachable Mexican food, welcoming spaces, and the communal experience of gathering around the table.
CEO Amelia Riba states, "For 20 years, Tacombi has been your neighborhood taqueria, serving up our famous crispy fish tacos, classic cocktails, and plenty of good times.
Our taquerias have been the backdrop for so many memories—from first dates and weddings to goodbye parties and new-job celebrations. Along the way, you've helped shape Tacombi into what it is today. This month, we're celebrating 20 years with the Tacombi classics you've made your favorites, plus exciting events throughout the month.
Here's to 20 years—and 20 more!"
The 20th anniversary celebration will continue throughout the fall, with new menu offerings and local programming across Tacombi markets.
