Tactus Technology Closes $6 Million Investment

FREMONT, Calif., Dec. 21, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Tactus Technology, Inc., developer of next-generation touch interface components, today announced that it has secured $6 million in Series A funding.  Thomvest Ventures, a $150 million evergreen fund capitalized by Peter J. Thomson, led the investment. The funding will allow Tactus to expand its product development and ramp up operations toward large-scale customer deployments.

In a world of flat, touch devices, Tactus provides a new dimension to touchscreens by enabling real, physical buttons to rise up from a screen's surface on demand, and then recede back into the screen, leaving a perfectly flat, transparent surface when gone.

While touchscreens provide a versatile user experience, they provide no tactile experience for consumers. Current attempts to solve this deficiency have relied on haptics, which provides simulated button feedback (such as a buzz) after you touch the screen. Tactus, on the other hand, is creating real, physical buttons using a dynamic surface.
