Taiwan Tourism Workshop Returns to Chicago After Seven Years, Connecting Taiwan with Local Travel Industry

With More than 200 Direct Flights from North America, Taiwan Invites Travelers to Discover the Appeal of "Taiwan Never Sleep"

CHICAGO, Sept. 25, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- The Taiwan Tourism Administration (TTA) held the second stop of its three-city U.S. workshop series in Chicago on Sept. 16, 2026, marking Taiwan's return to the Midwest market after a seven-year hiatus. The event drew 53 local travel industry representatives, along with diplomatic guests from Belize, Lithuania, Poland, Thailand, Guatemala and Colombia.

The workshops, held in New York, Chicago and Los Angeles from Sept. 14–18, 2026, connect Taiwanese travel agencies, hotels and airlines with North American travel professionals to introduce Taiwan's latest tourism offerings and build new business partnerships.

In 2025, more than 710,000 visitors from the United States traveled to Taiwan, with nearly 60% visiting for tourism purposes, a record high for the destination. Supporting this growth is Taiwan's strong air connectivity, with more than 200 weekly round-trip flights linking the destination to 13 major North American cities. "Taiwan offers a rich and diverse food culture, from stinky tofu to xiaolongbao, well worth experiencing firsthand," said Dennis Yen-Feng Lei, Director-General of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Chicago. "Taiwan is also a safe destination where visitors can enjoy city life around the clock."

Claire Hsu, Marketing Manager of the Taiwan Tourism Administration, introduced the "Taiwan Never Sleep" concept, highlighting the destination's safety, convenience and round-the-clock appeal. "No matter when visitors arrive, they can explore with confidence and enjoy an exciting journey," she said.

Through its "Tourism Dual-Wheel Drive Program," the TTA is targeting repeat visitors, MICE travelers extending stays for leisure, and incentive travelers. Repeat visitors accounted for 42.25% of all visitors to Taiwan in 2025, matching the pre-pandemic peak recorded in 2019.

The Chicago workshop featured Taiwan Tourism Ambassador Chen Ming-Chu, a cross-genre Taiwanese opera performance by Tsai Yu-Lun, and an Alishan tea experience by Cha San Dai, giving attendees an immersive introduction to Taiwan's culture and lifestyle.
