Takeda Cares Day Raises $63,700

DEERFIELD, Ill., Sept. 20, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Takeda, a top 15 global pharmaceutical company, will raise money for local organizations today when employees participate in their third annual Takeda Cares Day event on the company's Deerfield campus.

More than 600 employees will run or walk a 5K course on the company's campus. Takeda will donate $100 for each employee who participates in the event to one of three community organizations that the participating employee has pre-selected. An estimated $63,700 will be raised. The event will also host speakers from the local community organizations.   

Takeda is a company that strives toward better health for people worldwide through leading innovation in medicine. This pursuit begins when employees participate in a culture of health through events like Takeda Cares Day. Further, the event recognizes employees' commitment to making a difference in the community through Takeda's corporate giving programs, many of which align with the company's three focus areas – health, science and community vitality.

Donation Recipients
In its third year, the event was created to advance Takeda's philanthropic commitment to the Chicagoland area and to promote employee camaraderie. This year's beneficiaries dedicate their time to the following causes:

• HealthReach - A free medical clinic that provides a patient-centered medical home to 5,000 of the uninsured, underserved residents of Lake County, Ill.
• Junior Achievement of Chicago - An educational nonprofit bringing financial literacy, work readiness and entrepreneurship programs into classrooms from kindergarten through high school.
• R&D (STEM) Learning Exchange - Brings interested learners together with organizations that can provide unique opportunities in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) education.
