Talitha Washington to Deliver Closing Keynote at 2025 MS-CC Annual Meeting

Distinguished mathematician and leading data scientist will explore how cyberinfrastructure and AI are transforming institutional research frameworks

WASHINGTON, May 12, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Talitha Washington — executive director of Howard University Center for Applied Data Science and Analytics — will deliver the closing keynote at the 2025 Annual Meeting for the MS-CC. The event will take place May 28-30 in Nashville, Tennessee.

Washington's keynote, "Unlock Discoveries and Opportunities through AI and Cyberinfrastructure," will draw on community insights and emerging practices to explore how institutions are reimagining research through the use of AI and cyberinfrastructure to support innovation and discovery across disciplines.

The keynote is scheduled for 11:45 a.m. CT on May 30 at the Loews Nashville at Vanderbilt Plaza.

Trailblazer in STEM Leadership
Washington serves as the executive director of the Center for Applied Data Science & Analytics (CADSA) at Howard University, where she guides the center's direction in harnessing the power of data to address society's most pressing challenges through groundbreaking research, expanded educational opportunities, and innovative advancements on a global scale.

She holds the Sean McCleese Endowed Chair and is a professor of mathematics at Howard University, where she also serves as co-chair of the AI Advisory Council. She recently served as president of the Association for Women in Mathematics. Her research interests include applied mathematics, dynamical systems, nonstandard finite difference schemes, data science, artificial intelligence, and education.

Distinguished Scholar
Washington is a distinguished scholar whose contributions have been widely recognized across academic, professional, and community organizations. She was elected to Phi Beta Kappa and Sigma Xi, as well as mathematics honor societies Kappa Mu Epsilon and Pi Mu Epsilon. Her accolades include the 2019 BEYA STEM Innovator Award, the 2019 Outstanding Faculty Award from Howard University, and the 2020 National Science Foundation Director's Award for Superior Accomplishment.

Washington is a fellow of the African Scientific Institute, the American Mathematical Society, the Association for Women in Mathematics, and the American Association for the Advancement of Science.

She earned a bachelor's degree in mathematics from Spelman College and a master's and doctorate in mathematics from the University of Connecticut, which later awarded her an honorary doctorate in science.
