Effective Configuration Management with Chef

Hardly any software is made without integration with other systems. The trend toward the "API Economy" requires that software supports a variety of interfaces from different manufacturers. This brings new challenges for testers and developers. One such challenge is that not only must the source code be versioned, but also that the external systems and associated configurations must be tested with several variants. Tasktop developers working on the open source Eclipse Mylyn project - developing application lifecycle tools that integrate with dozens of ALM systems - face these kinds of configuration management challenges on a daily basis. Using a practical example, this talk will provide an introduction to effective configuration management. Attendees will learn about the management of an actual test environment, and how reusability can be automated in a local environment, using Vagrant.
