TD Employees Root for the Environment by Planting Trees in Eight Cities from Maine to Florida

CHERRY HILL, N.J. and PORTLAND, Maine, Sept. 19, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- TD Bank, America's Most Convenient Bank^®, in partnership with Alliance for Community Trees (ACTrees), today announced its second annual TD Tree Days tree planting events. The events, which will take place in October, will see more than 450 TD employee volunteers planting nearly 475 trees in eight locations from Maine to Florida.

When mature, a single tree can absorb approximately 180 pounds of particulate pollution per year in addition to providing shade and natural barriers to storm water runoff. According to the Arbor Day Foundation, a mature tree can store up to 100 gallons of rainwater during a large storm, preventing that water from overflowing city sewer systems.

TD Tree Days is an example of TD's commitment to the environment and is a component of TD Forests, an initiative to reduce the bank's paper use by 20 percent by 2015, and protect forests and plant trees equal to the amount of paper used by the bank.

Employee volunteers from TD Bank will be joined by local ACTrees community partner organizations in eight cities served by the bank to plant the trees:

Brooklyn, NY - October 11
TD Bank employees will be joined by New York Restoration Project volunteers to plant 42 trees at Hope Gardens housing complex to help create a cleaner, greener and more livable environment for nearly 700 residents. The tree planting will also be part of New York City's MillionTreesNYC campaign.

Greenville, SC - October 26
TreesGreenville and TD Bank volunteers will plant 54 new trees to help advance the community-wide revitalization of Brutontown, where TreesGreenville works with residents to teach them how to properly plant and maintain trees.

Jacksonville, FL - October 19
TD Auto Finance and TD Bank employees will be joined by Greenscape of Jacksonville to plant 60 trees at Success Park, a New Town Success Zone (NTSZ) neighborhood park formed to provide a place-based continuum of services for children and families.

Miami, FL - October 3
TD Bank and Citizens for a Better South Florida volunteers will plant 100 trees at West End Park to help re-introduce trees to the large, dense Flagami neighborhood of more than 40,000 residents.

New Haven, CT - October 23
TD Bank employees will be joined by volunteers from Urban Resources Initiative to plant 50 trees in The Hill neighborhood in New Haven. The Hill tree planting will provide storm water and air quality benefits and improved streetscape for residents living on Lines Street and Frank Street, which currently have very few trees.

Perth Amboy, NJ - October 10
New Jersey Tree Foundation volunteers will help TD Bank employees plant 75 trees at Francis Street Park to create a greenway into the park, which is linked by four residential blocks. The trees will also provide a natural barrier between the park and NJ Transit train tracks, to help keep children and park-goers safe.

Portland, ME - October 4
TD Bank volunteers will be joined by Project Canopy to plant 50 trees at Bayside Trail and Neighborhood, a former industrial area that is now a primary gateway for those living, working and visiting Portland. The Bayside Trail is a former railroad property in need of trees to help advance this transitional neighborhood.

Washington, DC - October 24
Casey Trees and TD Bank volunteers will plant 36 trees at the Takoma Recreation Center and Calvin Coolidge High School, adding much needed green infrastructure to the recreation center and school grounds by enhancing recreation spaces, mitigating the effects of storm water, providing shade and establishing a more welcoming environment for visitors and students.

TD Tree Days events are taking place during ACTrees' National NeighborWoods Month™, an annual celebration of trees observed each October.
