TDS® Telecom Selects Actiontec to Power New 1Gig Service

SUNNYVALE, Calif., May 28, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Actiontec Electronics today announced that it has been selected as the CPE (Customer Premise Equipment) supplier for TDS Telecom's newly launched residential Gigabit Ethernet service. The ultra high-speed broadband service will offer speeds up to 1 Gbps downstream/400 Mbps upstream.

With the new 1Gig service, TDS Telecom delivers broadband access speeds that are more than 100 times faster than what the average U.S. household has today. The service is immediately available to its TV subscribers in Hollis, New Hampshire—now one of the fastest broadband towns in America. The service will be expanded to TDS's other markets in the future.

TDS selected Actiontec's T2200H Universal Broadband Gateway for this new service because it delivered the fastest throughput of all the devices TDS tested in trials. The T2200H is a powerhouse copper and fiber WAN router that features a range of connectivity options for a combination of speedy wired and wireless experiences.

The landmark residential speeds of TDS's 1Gig service are required to keep pace with new multiscreen and Ultra HD experiences as well as consumers' increasing broadband usage and viewing habits. According to comScore, 61 percent of all Americans watched an average of 397 online videos in January 2014. With the 1Gig service, customers can download an HD movie in seconds and stream it to multiple devices, seamlessly.

The T2200H's unique copper-fiber hybrid design supports VDSL2 in addition to Gigabit Ethernet, which means that the same device can be used in both fiber to the home (FTTH) and DSL deployments. This versatility eliminates the complexity and extra costs of managing multiple CPE devices for different markets. In addition, the T2200H enables carriers like TDS to migrate from copper to fiber without having to swap out subscriber equipment.
