Team Detour® Goes for Gold this Summer

CARSON CITY, Nev., June 14, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Protein products company Forward Foods, LLC, the maker of the award-winning Detour® bar, today announced the addition of three world class athletes to "Team Detour". Heading to London, Detour is proud to have some of the world's best on their roster – Olympic Gold Medalist and World Champion swimmer Matt Grevers, soccer player Megan Rapinoe, and decathlete Trey Hardee.

London will mark the Olympic debut of U.S. women's soccer player Megan Rapinoe. Rapinoe is known for her attacking skills and goal scoring. Many remember Rapinoe's cross to teammate Abby Wambach, who then scored the winning goal in the final seconds of overtime in the quarterfinals against Brazil in the 2011 FIFA Women's World Cup. The U.S. women's team opens Olympic play on July 25, 2012, against France. They hope to win a third consecutive Olympic gold medal, setting a record for any men's or women's Olympic soccer team.

Olympian and reigning decathlon world champion Trey Hardee is a favorite for gold in London. Hardee won his first national title in 2009 at the USA Outdoor Championships, where he posted personal bests in three of the ten events, and scored the highest number of total points (8,790) to date to win the gold medal at the World Outdoor Championships in Berlin. Coming off elbow surgery in September and leveraging lessons learned from an early exit at the 2008 Beijing Games, Hardee's confidence grows each week as the Summer Games approach.

Another alumnus of the 2008 Beijing Games, swimmer Matt Grevers is seeking to add to his medal collection in London. Grevers took home the silver medal for the 100 meter backstroke in Beijing as well as two gold medals by swimming the preliminary heats for the 4x100 meter freestyle relay and the 4x100 meter medley relay (swimming backstroke). In February of this year, Grevers won the gold medal for 100 meter backstroke at the Missouri Grand Prix. While on the medal stand, he proposed to his girlfriend and fellow U.S. National team member, Annie Chambers. She said "yes".

As members of Team Detour, Rapinoe, Hardee and Grevers join NFL player LaMarr Woodley (Pittsburgh), the US Pro Tri Team, and a collection of up and coming athletes in a variety of sports. They will fuel themselves in preparation for the Olympics and during the Games with Detour products.
