TEDA Provided Surgical Treatments to 6,000 Orphaned and Impoverished Children with Congenital Heart Disease in Ten-Year Medical Reform

TIANJIN, China, Oct. 30, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- TEDA International Cardiovascular Hospital (hereinafter referred to as 'TEDA') has been continuously exploring new modes and channels for medical aid ever since its founding. The benefited children were aged from one month to 18 years old and covered 12 ethnic groups from 27 provinces, cities and autonomous regions.

Those children were suffering from different categories and levels of CHD, most of which were more serious complex ones. To take good care of them, TEDA has not only allocated the most elite medical staff and the most advanced medical equipments for them, but also offered them clothes, toys, nutritionally balanced meals and 24-hour care. In addition, TEDA has formulated a set of institutionally and procedurally complete processes from admission to discharge and from the establishment of consultation and treatment plans to the arrangement of living details of the children. When blood for clinical use was running low, the director Mr. Liu Xiaocheng personally led the medical staff to get on the blood collection bus and made donations. Apart from CHD, some children were also afflicted with anal atresia, abdominal wall hernia or other serious malformations. To spare the pain in the second surgeries for the children, TEDA specially invited experts from other hospitals to correct their deformities during the cardiac surgeries. To facilitate the re-examinations of the orphaned and impoverished Tibet and Qinghai children with CHD, the medical team led by Director Mr. Liu Xiaocheng travelled more than 5,000 kilometers to the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau where they performed visits and the free CHD screening for the local children in 15 counties of this region.
