Ten Fifty B in San Diego Awarded Prestigious LEED Gold Certification

SAN DIEGO, May 23, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- The U.S. Green Building Council announced recently that Ten Fifty B in downtown San Diego has been awarded Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) Gold certification.  LEED is the nation's preeminent rating system for design, construction, and operation of green buildings.  By using less energy and water, LEED certified buildings save money for families, businesses, and taxpayers; reduce greenhouse gas emissions; and contribute to a healthier environment.

Ten Fifty B's LEED Gold certification was based on a number of green design and construction features, including:

• Recycled water for landscape irrigation
• White roof helps reduce the heat island effect
• Rooftop solar panels generate power for the building's electricity and water heating
• Energy-efficient appliances and light fixtures
• Regenerative energy elevators that create the power used to operate them
• Solar efficient windows keep living space cool
• 20% of construction materials were locally sourced
• 10% of construction materials were made from recycled materials
• Green cleaning products
• Lobby finishes are made from rapidly renewable resources, are recyclable, or are made from post and pre-consumer recycled materials
• Cork flooring, bamboo ceilings, and recycled glass tiles can all be recycled at the end of their lifespan
