Texas Children's Hospital to host conference on envenomations at Baylor College of Medicine

HOUSTON, June 24, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The National School of Tropical Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine is teaming up with Texas Children's Hospital and The Houston Zoo to host the second annual Houston Venom Conference.

The conference will include a full day of lectures focusing on the clinical diagnosis and management of terrestrial and aquatic envenomations.

The conference, sponsored by Texas Children's Hospital, will take place on June 28 at Baylor from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Sessions during the conference will address exciting and potentially life-saving topics for Texans during the summer such as: "The Sting: Scorpion Envenomations," "Snakes of Southeast Texas," "Copperhead Bites: Are we under-treating or over-reacting?" and more. The conference, which will feature speakers from across the state including medical toxicologists and emergency physicians, will be free, thanks to an unrestricted educational grant from BTG.

Following the lectures, guests will have the opportunity to visit the Houston Zoo for exclusive guided tours of the Aquarium and Reptile House, where a reception will also be located to cap the event.
