The 29th Annual Nautica Malibu Triathlon Presented By Equinox Raised Over $1,317,000 To Benefit Children's Hospital Los Angeles

MALIBU, Calif., Sept. 20, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- The energy was high at the 29^th annual Nautica Malibu Triathlon presented by Equinox as over 5,000 participants challenged their fitness capacities by swimming, biking and running across the Malibu coastline and persevered for a good cause. Athletes, locals, philanthropists, celebrities and fans alike gathered to show support and raised over $1.31 million to support the Children's Hospital Los Angeles' Pediatric Cancer Research Program.

The competition heated up with some of the most notable names in Hollywood lending their support for this year's Nautica Malibu Triathlon presented by Equinox, including Katherine Kelly Lang who finished first in the celebrity female division with a time of 1:53:27.05 and Colin Egglesfield who came in first in the celebrity male division with a time of 1:38:58.36. Team The Amazing Race took the number one spot among the co-ed celebrity relay division with an overall time of 1:26:21.26 Other participants in the celebrity division included Chace Crawford, Jon Cryer, Jack Falahee and Michael Weatherly.

Jason Pedersen prevailed as the overall winner of the triathlon, completing the half-mile ocean swim, 18-mile bike course and four mile run with an impressive time of 1:13:12.59 while Kylie Matulick seized first place in the female division with a time of 1:35:45.63

All fundraising efforts from the Nautica Malibu Triathlon presented by Equinox will go directly to the Children's Hospital Los Angeles' Pediatric Cancer Research Program, a leader in innovative research focused on curing and preventing cancers in children around the globe. This generous donation will support research and finding revolutionary treatments needed for children with the deadliest forms of pediatric cancers.

In addition to the main races, friends, family and fellow spectators participated in enjoyable activities happening at the Fun Zone, where they were invited to play games and support the younger athletes in the Nautica Kids Run and Tot Trot.
