The ACMG Foundation for Genetic and Genomic Medicine Announces Dr. Phillip George Febbo, MD as New Board Member

BETHESDA, Md., Sept. 27, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- The ACMG Foundation for Genetic and Genomic Medicine (www.acmgfoundation.org) has announced that Dr. Philip George Febbo has been elected to join its Board of Directors. The ACMG Foundation is a national nonprofit foundation dedicated to facilitating the integration of genetics and genomics into medical practice. The board members are active participants in serving as advocates for the Foundation and for advancing its policies and programs. Dr. Febbo will serve on the ACMG Foundation Board from September 2018 to September 2024.

Dr. Febbo is the Chief Medical Officer and Senior Vice-President at Illumina Inc. and previously was the Chief Medical Officer at Genomic Health, Inc. He is a former professor of Medicine, Hematology/Oncology/Urology at the University of California, San Francisco. He received his MD from the University of California, San Francisco, completed his residency at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston and post-doctoral fellowship at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Dr. Febbo was also the Co-Director at UCSF Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center, Prostate Cancer program from 2010-2013. He has over 100 manuscripts and book chapters focused on the application of genomics to understand the biology and clinical behavior of cancer and has served on a number of editorial boards including the Journal of Oncology, Clinical Oncology, Future Oncology, and Case Reports in Medicine. Dr. Febbo has received a number of honors and awards including the NIH Funding through RO! and U01 grants, a Prostate Cancer Foundation Challenge Award, the Damon Runyon Cancer Research Foundation Clinical Investigator Award, and several Department of Defense awards including a New Investigator Award, Idea Development Award and Physician Research Training Award.
