Now in its 13th edition, the 352-page 2016 Top 500 Guide® ranks the 500 leading e-retailers in the U.S. and Canada based on their annual web sales. Data from the Guide show that the fastest-growing web merchants today are those ranked between 201-300: They're mostly niche merchants, selling only online, and collectively they grew their web sales by 15.5% to $10.6 billion in 2015.
The fastest-growing merchant, according to the data in the 2016 Top 500 Guide®, is Leesa, a web-only mattress retailer. The company grew 2015 web sales 20,257.1% % to $28.5 million, landing the No. 499 spot in the Top 500 rankings. Leesa is one of 26 web merchants that are completely new to Internet Retailer's annual e-commerce rankings. Number 1 once again is Amazon.com Inc., which increased its online sales by 16.3% to an Internet Retailer-estimated $92.4 billion.
In addition to regular rankings of the Top 500 by annual web sales, the 2016 edition features an Internet Retailer Performance Score that assesses each Top 500 e-retailer's online success vis-à-vis its direct competitors as well as the U.S. e-commerce market overall.
