NEW YORK, Jan. 13, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- The Headmaster, and all the faculty of The British International School of New York are pleased to announce that they have been authorized as an I.B. World School offering the Middle Years Programme.

BIS-NY was authorized as a PYP school back in 2009 and is delighted that its students now benefit from the global perspective and the inquiry based philosophy of the I.B. throughout their journey at BIS-NY.

Headmaster William Phelps recognized the authorization with the following statement: "Our IB Authorization is a magnificent achievement. We are now an IB World School form Nursery to Eighth Grade and I am very proud of the dedication and hard work of our faculty. We can now be certain that we are providing the very best foundation for success as our children graduate into the elite high schools around the globe."

In their response to BIS-NY the I.B.O. remarked, "As an IB World School, you are part of a global community of schools committed to developing knowledgeable, caring young people who will be ready to negotiate their futures successfully and make contributions resulting in a more harmonious and peaceful world. We commend your school's educators, administrators, students and families for their active roles in choosing to offer the MYP. The positive results of this choice will become evident in your community as classes of MYP students graduate and undertake activities that enhance social, cultural and economic environments locally, nationally and, perhaps, internationally."

Shehla Ghouse, Deputy Head and Curriculum Director of BIS-NY commented on the news:  "Our recent accreditation as an I.B.M.Y.P. World School now puts us on the world stage as the only international school in New York City implementing the standards of the English National Curriculum through the flexible philosophical framework of the I.B. Primary and Middle Years Programmes. This recognition means that the innovation, creativity, global perspectives and critical thinking prevalent at BIS-NY will help our students to continue their education successfully in any part of the world."

The British International School of New York opened in 2006 and has since grown to take its place as a leading center of academic excellence in New York City, serving American families from the New York area as well as international and British students in equal number.

The school serves children from 3 to 14 and prides itself on delivering a first-rate global education, underpinned by the high-standards of math and literacy found in the English National Curriculum.
