PHILADELPHIA, Oct. 11, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- On Friday October 13th, five cyclists who left Seattle in the beginning of August will be arriving in Philadelphia at the C.B. Community School. The REAL Ride is an off-road ride from Seattle to Boston to benefit schools that serve a very special population - students who have gone off-track in their educational experience.
In Philadelphia, they have partnered with the C.B. Community School. Kids who have spent time in foster care and have struggled to finish their high school education are the focus of the school.
"What this school is really about is love, what our kids need most to feel is loved," said Roberta Trombetta, the school's president. She continued, "It means so much to our students that they have inspired others. They know these riders have been carrying their dreams in their backpacks. Literally. Our students wrote out pennants that the riders have attached to their bikes and backpacks."
So far, the riders have been on the trail for 2 1/2 months. They have climbed the Rockies, endured pounding heat and dodged wildfires to get this far. They are coming off the route briefly to meet with some of the students and staff at the C.B. Community School.
The REAL Ride founder Cris Rothfuss said, "We've ridden more than 4,000 miles, and it has not been easy. But we remain more inspired than when we started. We've learned firsthand from students across the country how powerful it is to receive a second chance at education. The best part of this ride has been connecting with the students along the way. If our efforts make even a small difference for the schools that provide these second chances, it will be worth every pedal stroke."
