The Clery Center for Security On Campus to Collaborate with the Pennsylvania State University on Jeanne Clery Act Training
WAYNE, Pa., June 13, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Clery Center for Security On Campus, (formerly Security On Campus, Inc.) www.securityoncampus.org, the nation's leading nonprofit campus safety education and advocacy organization, will train with Penn State leadership to provide state-of-the art Clery Act compliance training for school officials. Enacted in 1990 and amended to address two decades of changing and challenging circumstances, the Clery Act requires colleges and universities to maintain precise records and openly report criminal activity on campus. Each year, the Clery Center trains hundreds of school officials and administrators to comply with the letter of the law and embrace the spirit of safety it is intended to support.
Alison Kiss is the Executive Director of CCSOC and a member of the training faculty. Kiss acknowledges that the field of campus safety is continually evolving. As a result, she has worked with Penn State to create a specialized training program designed to train 55 university administrators to use the curriculum on all 24 campuses to truly institutionalize a commitment to compliance. "We encourage institutions to adopt a holistic approach towards creating and maintaining a safe campus environment," Kiss says. "Our work with the school's Compliance Coordinator, Gabriel Gates, demonstrates Penn State is working proactively towards that goal."
"More than ever, Penn State is committed to complying with the provisions of the Clery Act. This partnership with the Clery Center represents an even stronger commitment. We are pleased to be among the first universities to collaborate with CCSOC in this fashion. We are eager to show other colleges and universities the benefits of such a partnership," states Steve Shelow, Assistant Vice President, Police & Public Safety.
The training sessions, which are closed to the public, are scheduled for June 20 and 21 in State College, PA. The administrators trained will provide on-going education to their respective campuses throughout the year.
