The Doctors of Texas State Optical Announce the Passing of Dr. Merl D. Jackman

HOUSTON, Aug. 16, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- On July 15, TSO Past Chairman Dr. Merl Douglas Jackman died after suffering from sudden chemotherapy related complications during treatments for neck cancer. After several days in intensive care, family and friends surrounded Dr. Jackman during his last moments. He was 65.

"The sudden and unexpected passing of Dr. Jackman is a tragic loss for his wonderful family and significant loss for our organization. Dr. Jackman provided selfless leadership for our network and he will be greatly missed," said TSO President John D. Marvin.

Dr. Jackman was married to Deborah Jackman, his high school sweetheart. She worked alongside him in his TSO office. They have four adult children and six grandchildren. He was devoted to his family and was a caring friend to an extraordinary number of people who spanned his entire life.

Dr. Jackman loved his work as an optometrist, his patients, his business associates, and his incredible staff. After graduating from Indiana University School of Optometry, he began his career in Austin in 1977. Dr. Jackman was chairman of the board at Texas State Optical from 2013 through 2016 and was recently re-elected to the board for a three year term. He was a founding member of Eye Lasik Austin, and owner of M.D. Jackman OD & Associates d/b/a Texas State Optical on North Lamar.
