The Eglevsky Ballet Brings Internationally Recognized Master Choreographer & Instructor Back to Long Island
Marina Eglevsky, Legendary Dancer & Choreographer, returns to The Eglevsky Ballet as Artistic Director
NEW HYDE PARK, N.Y., April 26, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- The Eglevsky Ballet, the only professional ballet company on Long Island for more than 50 years, has hired Marina Eglevsky as its Artistic Director to lead the Eglevsky Ballet Summer Intensive Workshop at Hofstra University. Marina Eglevsky has created an educational program where young and aspiring dancers will be exposed to a superior program offering a diverse, well rounded curriculum and training by a roster of exceptional and internationally acclaimed teachers. Taking place July 5-29, 2011, the summer program allows dancers beginning at 6 years on up to the pre-professional level to enhance their dance knowledge and training through courses such as classical ballet, modern contemporary, jazz, Spanish and character, as well as drama, music appreciation, health awareness and an in-theater performance to conclude the program. The Eglevsky Ballet will hold upcoming auditions for their 2011 Nutcracker production. The first audition will be held within the summer program on Thursday, July 21st from 4:00 - 6:00 PM at Hofstra's Dempster Hall Dance Studio.

Having been born into a renowned dance family of classical ballet, Marina has had the opportunity to study and perform with the leading luminaries of 20th Century Ballet including Mikhail Baryshnikov. Marina has studied at Balanchine's School of American Ballet, The American Ballet Theater School and The Eglevsky Ballet School. Marina has danced with the New York City Ballet, Harkness Ballet, Hamburg Ballet and Royal Winnipeg Ballet. She stages several Balanchine works and has staged for the Hamburg Ballet, ABT, NYCB, Bolshoi Ballet, Mariinsky Theater, Paris Opera and the Kennedy Center Honors. Marina has taught in many schools throughout the United States and received the prestigious Issie Award for her outstanding work in staging ballets.
