The Elsevier Foundation Launches the Next Green and Sustainable Chemistry Challenge

Call for Sustainable Chemistry Solutions to Tackle Challenges in Developing Countries

The Elsevier Foundation has announced the launch of the 2017 Elsevier Foundation Green and Sustainable Chemistry Challenge. In accordance with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, the Challenge aims to stimulate chemists to design innovative and sustainably sound products, processes and business models which will help to sustain and protect the world's population, especially in developing countries. The Challenge forms an important part of the Foundation's newly established programs and partnerships to ensure healthy lives, reduce inequality, achieve gender equality and bridge the North-South divide in scientific collaboration.

Proposals for the Green and Sustainable Chemistry Challenge will be accepted through September 15. After a thorough review process the top 50 proposals will be selected. The jury, consisting of expert scientists in the field and policymakers, will select the top five. These contestants will be invited to pitch their ideas at the second Green and Sustainable Chemistry Conference held in Berlin in May 2017. The first prize Challenge winner will receive a €50,000 award, and the second prize winner a €25,000 award.

The Elsevier Foundation Green and Sustainable Chemistry Challenge is open to individuals or organizations from all countries operating in the non-profit sectors. Projects can be in any field of green or sustainable chemistry so long as they are applicable for use in developing countries.
