Survey of Pan-European investment professionals highlights achievement across the buyside, sellside and corporate community
Extel, the leading survey of the Pan-European investment community today announced the results of the 43rd annual Extel survey. The pan-European survey highlights achievement across the buy-side, sell-side and corporate communities.
Receiving an unprecedented response, Extel continues to capture deeper, more analytical data from all the key market practitioners than ever before. Over 95% of votes came online, with Extel running from March 23 through to April 29, 2016. It reflects the contribution of over 2,800 buy-side firms, 2,800 analysts from 275 brokerage firms/research houses and nearly 1,000 of Europe's largest quoted companies worldwide - over 20,000 individual voters in total, casting over 1.1 million votes.
Highlights of the key winners from Extel 2016 are:
- Leading Pan-European Brokerage Firm for Equity and Equity-Linked Research: Morgan Stanley
- Leading Pan-European Fund Management Firm: JP Morgan Asset Management
- Leading Pan-European Individual Equity Analyst: Jeff Stent, Exane BNP Paribas
- Leading Pan-European Hedge Fund: GLG Partners
- Leading Broker for UK Small & Mid Caps: Numis Securities
- Leading Pan-European Asset Management firm for Equity Execution : Deutsche Asset & Wealth Management
- Leading Pan-European Quoted Company for IR: Deutsche Telekom AG
Extel 2016 identified a number of industry trends - based on over 12,000 individual responses - which include:
- Asset managers are increasingly selective in their evaluation of brokers, with the winners of the main 30 equity sectors split across 10 different houses
- With over 580 different brokers and research providers receiving votes, the research & advisory market continues to fragment, as the buyside searches deeper for quality insights - the onset of MIFID2 is likely to deepen this trend
- Over 95% of the buyside see more interaction with corporates as adding value in their investment decisions - and over 70% want more CEO and CFO meetings
'Extel continues to deliver an extraordinary response from across the equity community. We are truly appreciative for all our participants. The depth of data makes the key findings irrefutable - asset managers place increasing importance on independent thinking from brokers; intelligent trading ideas, and a greater involvement directly with management at the stocks they cover,' commented Steve Kelly, Head of Europe with WeConvene Extel.
Extel Europe bestows over 600 awards covering equity sectors, economics and strategy, equity derivatives, emerging markets, and UK Small & Mid Caps categories.
