The Fashion Design Program at California College of the Arts Presents the Annual Fashion Show 2012 Friday, May 11, 2012
SAN FRANCISCO, April 18, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Fashion Design Program at California College of the Arts is pleased to announce the Annual Fashion Show 2012, which will begin at 8 p.m. on Friday, May 11, 2012, at CCA's San Francisco campus (1111 Eighth Street). The show features 13 new collections created by senior Fashion Design students, juried by industry professionals and worn by runway models. General-admission tickets are $40. VIP tickets are $100 and include admission to the pre-party at 6:30 p.m. and preferred seating at the event.
"At CCA, we encourage each individual designer to develop a thesis collection that reflects their aesthetic perspective," remarks CCA Fashion Design Program chair Amy Williams. "This year, the 'aha' moments of the senior cohort were exceptionally sure and true. The results are 13 distinct, individual, highly innovative collections! I can hardly wait for the public to meet these outstanding emerging talents. And to have Maybelline as presenting sponsor to support this celebration of the students' creative work is a perfect statement of fashion collaboration."
This year's cutting-edge creations are aimed at a wide variety of audiences. They include collections by zero-waste aficionado Annie McCourt, whose process of cutting and patterning with only straight lines and 90- and 60-degree angles eliminates pattern-cut waste; Lauren Levin, who combines the traditional garb of Ecuador, handcrafted elements, and sheer textiles with a Continental feel; Vishaka Sachi Henrietta, who is interested in negative space as it manifests in eroded coastline landscapes and the work of the Spanish sculptor Eduardo Chillida; and Steven Soundara, whose men's collection is intended to convey the idea of pain.
Fashion Show attendees will get to see projects from Fashioning Functional Gear, a recent course taught by fashion designer Lyndsie Nash and industrial designer Colin Owen, in which students investigated the intersection of fashion design and industrial design.
Also this evening, the international fashion magazine Surface will again present its Emerging Talent Award to one particularly gifted member of CCA's graduating Fashion Design class. The winner, selected by the editors, will receive a profile of his or her work in the magazine's annual "Avant Guardian" issue and will be flown to New York to attend the photo shoot.
