The First International Advisory Committee of School of Management of Fudan University Convened its Second General Meeting

SHANGHAI, Nov. 18, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- On October 31, the second plenary meeting of the first international advisory committee of School of Management of Fudan University was convened at Fudan University. 17 committee members and representatives from the political, business and educational fields were present at the meeting.

Before the meeting, Han Zheng, a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Shanghai municipal Party Secretary, had a meeting with members of the Advisory Committee at Fudan University.

Chen Zhili, Vice Chairman of the 11th NPC Standing Committee and chairman of the International Advisory Committee of School of Management of Fudan University, hosted the meeting and gave concluding remarks.

Assume the mission and discuss the future

Madam Chen pointed out in her speech that as the think tank of the School of Management, the International Advisory Committee shall play a supporting role for the School in realizing its strategic objectives, developing management education in China and improving its international influence.

Lu Xiongwen, Dean of School of Management at Fudan University, delivered a thorough and in-depth report to the International Advisory Committee on scientific research, student enrollment, project cooperation, external exchange and construction of new school campus, etc. He reported the achievements of the School of Management in 2013 of all aspects, and in particular, the progress made in scientific research. Statistics shows that during 2011 and 2014, the School has been selected as the 112th of the UTD Top 120 World Rankings of Business Schools Based on Research Contribution, ranking first in mainland China.

Dean Lu showed his appreciation for the attention and help from all the committee members. He stressed that to achieve its mission of "Being rooted in progressive China, devoting itself to innovative research and fostering managing talents, business elites and social leaders with global perspectives and local insights", the School needs the International Advisory Committee's support and guidance, and that the School will make unremitting efforts to enter the forefront of business schools in Asia and become a school with international influence within a few years, and reach its goal of being ranked on the top global business school list in the next ten years.

Then the committees made inquiries and comments on the report delivered by Mr. Lu and gave opinions and suggestions on the development of the School.

Global leaders gathering in Fudan

The International Advisory Committee of the School of Management at Fudan University consists of famous leaders from political, business and educational fields of home and abroad. At the time of the second committee meeting, the School has established the Fudan Global Leader forum. The purpose of the Forum is to gather global leaders in all fields including the committee members of the International Advisory Committee, share the visions of the leaders with students, teachers and alumni through the Forum focusing on global development themes, and reveal coping methods against global challenges. The keynote speakers consist of the members of the Committee leaders from political and business fields and world renowned scholars and professionals as well as.

Our IAB member who gave an address at the Forum including Lord Powell, crossbencher of the House of Lords, member of Britain Special Constitution Committee and vice chairman of the International Advisory Committee, Liu Shaoyong, GM of China Eastern Airlines Group, chairman of China Eastern Airlines Co., Ltd, and vice chairman of the International Advisory Committee, Wei Gaosi, the chairman of Silicon Valley Bank and member of the International Advisory Committee, and Chen Qizong, chairman of Hang Lung Group, Hang Lung Properties Limited and member of the International Advisory Committee.

Among the four keynote speakers, there were former political officials, business leaders, local enterprise leaders and overseas famous entrepreneurs whose enterprises cover various fields such as aviation, finance and real estate.

Lord Charles Powell from the political field played an important role in foreign affairs and economic exchange. He used to be the private secretary, foreign affair consultant and international consultant of Mrs. Thatcher, former Britain Prime Minister, as well as the chairman of China-Britain Business Council (CBBC). When communicating with students, Powell pointed out that "International exchange is a necessary approach to foster world class talents. Under the leadership of Mr. Liu Shaoyong, the Chairman of China Eastern Airlines, GM of China Eastern Airlines Group and chairman of China Eastern Airlines Limited, China Eastern Airlines is one of the three major leading aviation transportation groups with its volume of passenger transportation ranking fifth around the world. Silicon Valley Bank led by its Chairman Mr. Wei Gaosi is headquartered in Silicon Valley, the most important innovation park of the world. It has been focusing on providing financial service for the innovation field, and it accounts for 60% of the loan business for high-tech enterprises receiving venture capital throughout the America. Mr. Chen Qizong, chairman of Hang Lung Group, is always an enthusiastic supporter of the development of education. He believes that Education is the most valuable treasure for any person. The education in business school will play an important role in the future development of China, and will be the engine for the transformation and development of China in the next ten years.

The First International Advisory Committee of School of Management at Fudan University consisted of 27 committees with Li Lanqing being the honorary chairman and Madam Chen, the vice chairman of 11th NPC Standing Committee and former state councilor. Among the Committee members, there are representatives western developed countries such as UK and USA as well as developing countries like India and Chile; there are entrepreneurs with outstanding achievements from business field and scholars with wide reputation from academic field. They come from important economic entities as well as all aspects regarding social development, and they are all leaders widely respected in their fields.

It's an international practice for excellent management schools to establish their international advisory committee.
