The Fort Lauderdale Historical Society Partners with Leadership Broward to Launch Broward Means Business Networking Events in 2015
FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla., Dec. 11, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Commerce and business development in Fort Lauderdale began where the New River met the railroad tracks, just a few steps from the New River Inn Museum of History and the historic buildings that make up Fort Lauderdale's Historic District. In 2015, the Fort Lauderdale Historical Society will return to its roots as they work in partnership with a team of local professionals to launch a series of "Broward Means Business" networking events.

The Fort Lauderdale Historical Society is one of just eight Broward County nonprofits selected by Leadership Broward for their 2015 class community projects.
"We presented our idea to Leadership Broward at their community project fair because we felt that highlighting the rich history of businesses in the area and connecting it to the up and coming business community was an important part of the Society's future," said Patricia Zeiler, Fort Lauderdale Historical Society executive director. "We are thrilled about this new partnership because it will give us the added resources we need to put our plans into action."
For the 10-month project, the Leadership Broward group, made up of seven Leadership Broward Class XXXIII participants, will work to publish an expanded second edition of The Businesses That Built Fort Lauderdale book. Originally published in 2005 by the Society, the new edition will be published in Spring 2015 in conjunction with Broward County's centennial celebration. The group will also create a monthly business-networking event at the New River Inn Museum of History, and reestablish the Society's "Legal Legends" film series, which will feature stories on leaders in the legal field who have had a significant impact in Broward County.
"We were extremely excited about helping the Fort Lauderdale Historical Society with this project, and immediately got to work once we were assigned the project in November," said Christi Lynn Rice, Leadership Broward Class XXXIII member and co-chair of the Broward Means Business project. "So far, we have managed to increase the number of businesses that will be listed in the book by more than 50 percent and the first networking event is already scheduled for January."
The First Broward Means Business networking event will be held at the New River Inn Museum of History (231 SW 2nd Ave.) on January 14, 2015 at 5:30 p.m. The event will be recurring on the second Wednesday of every month.
