SAN FRANCISCO, April 25, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Giants and famed pitcher Barry Zito are stepping up to the plate to help build the new St. Anthony's Dining Room. The Giants will feature St. Anthony's in a Home Plate Ceremony at AT&T park on April 27th against the San Diego Padres. At the game, the Giants will debut a film of the last meal service in St. Anthony's original Dining Room on February 1st, 2012. St. Anthony's is serving meals from a temporary location while they raise funds to begin demolition and construction of their new Dining Room.
Known as The Miracle on Jones Street, St. Anthony's Dining Room has remained open 365 days a year without ever missing a meal, serving as a refuge for the city's most vulnerable people and a channel for San Francisco's generosity. Today, St. Anthony's faces the challenge of keeping that miracle alive by building THE NEW ST. ANTHONY'S DINING ROOM for the next 60 years.
Hundreds of staff, volunteers, and supporters of St. Anthony's will be decked out in St. Anthony t-shirts and Giants gear. Fans will start off the night at a pre-game party hosted by Pete and Janet Osborne, owners of MoMo's restaurant before heading across the street to AT&T park. Giants announcer Renel will kick off the official Home Plate ceremony just before 7 p.m. by honoring pitcher Barry Zito, President and Chief Operating Officer Larry Baer, and principal partner Larry Nibbi for the Giants as well as St. Anthony's Executive Director Shari Roeseler and President of the Board of Trustees Fr. John Hardin.
St. Anthony's has raised over 80% of the funds needed to complete this project. They have another $4.5 million to go. The Giants have proven to be a major catalyst in St. Anthony's effort to get the message out as the clock ticks on a summer deadline to raise the remaining funds.
