The Home Depot Foundation® honors service men and women during Habitat for Humanity's Veterans Build on the Mall in Washington, D.C., June 2-5

ATLANTA, May 30, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- The Home Depot® Foundation is continuing its support of Habitat for Humanity and its mission to provide simple, decent and affordable homes through sponsorship of Habitat's Veterans Build on the Mall event, June 2-5, in Washington, D.C. During the build, which supports and honors U.S. veterans and military families, Team Depot volunteers will join AmeriCorps members, veteran and civilian volunteers to frame seven houses on the National Mall, representing each branch of the military, the guard and reserves, and national service programs, such as AmeriCorps and VISTA. After the build, the frames will be delivered to Habitat affiliates in the Washington, D.C., area to be completed in partnership with Habitat partner families.

The Build on the Mall, sponsored by The Home Depot Foundation, is designed to help raise awareness of important opportunities offered through Habitat's new Veterans Build initiative and its Repair Corps program.

The Veterans Build program supports and honors existing and retired military members and their families by offering affordable housing options, critical repair solutions, and opportunities for volunteering, leadership and employment. Part of the Veterans Build initiative is the Repair Corps program which offers critical home repairs such as wheelchair ramps, wider doorways and structural improvements to U.S. military veterans. With $2.7 million in funding from The Home Depot Foundation and volunteer assistance from Team Depot, The Home Depot's associate-led volunteer force, the Repair Corps program will provide Habitat affiliates across the country with the resources to repair the homes of more than 180 veterans and their families.
