"THE HUNTSMAN: WINTER'S WAR" Original Motion Picture Soundtrack Album Released Digitally Today on Back Lot Music
Album Includes New Music by Eight-Time Oscar®-Nominated Composer James Newton Howard and a New Version of Halsey's "Castle"
LOS ANGELES, April 15, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Back Lot Music released the digital soundtrack album for The Huntsman: Winter's War, the story before Snow White, it was announced today. The soundtrack includes new music by eight-time Academy Award®-nominated composer James Newton Howard, as well as Halsey's "Castle (The Huntsman: Winter's War Version)". The song is prominently featured in campaign, as well as the film itself. A physical version of the album will release on 4/22 to coincide with the release of the film in theaters nationwide. A vinyl version will be released by Music on Vinyl this summer.
One of the most versatile and respected composers currently working in film, James Newton Howard's career spans 30 years. He has composed music for more than 120 films, including the Academy Award®-nominated scores for Defiance, Michael Clayton, The Village, The Fugitive, The Prince of Tides and My Best Friend's Wedding, and Academy Award®-nominated songs for Junior and One Fine Day. Howard also received Golden Globe nominations for his massive orchestral score for Peter Jackson's blockbuster King Kong, his provocative symphonic score for Defiance, and his songs from Junior and One Fine Day.
Though his training was classical, Howard always maintained an interest in rock and pop music, and it was his early work in the pop arena that allowed him to hone his talents as a musician, arranger, songwriter and producer. He racked up a string of collaborations in the studio and on the road with some of pop's biggest names, including Elton John; Crosby, Stills & Nash; Barbra Streisand; Earth, Wind and Fire; Bob Seger; Rod Stewart; Toto; Glenn Frey; Diana Ross; Carly Simon; Olivia Newton-John; Randy Newman; Rickie Lee Jones; and Chaka Khan.
For The Huntsman: Winter's War, Howard worked with musical sensation Halsey to arrange her song "Castle" for the big screen, complete with sweeping orchestra and choir. With lyrics such as "I'm headed straight for the castle / they wanna make me their queen," "Castle" was a welcome choice for both the campaign of The Huntsman: Winter's War as well as the film itself. Halsey went from last year's MTV Artist-to-Watch to selling out Madison Square Garden to a Gold-certified debut album, "Badlands" (Astralwerks) in less than seven months. She is currently on a global tour with sold out dates across five continents. The music video for "Castle (The Huntsman: Winter's War Version)" debuted Wednesday on VEVO.
About the Film
