FOSTER CITY, Calif., Feb. 22, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Sony Computer Entertainment America LLC (SCEA) today announced the release of Killzone® 3, the latest title in the storied Killzone® franchise.  Developed by Guerrilla Games, a wholly owned subsidiary of Sony Computer Entertainment, Killzone 3 puts players in the midst of an epic battle between warring Helghast factions, all in the fight for human survival.  Killzone 3 delivers a brutal and futuristic first-person shooter with an immersive single-player campaign, intense multiplayer action, and full stereoscopic 3D compatibility along with PlayStation Move functionality.

In Killzone 3, players find themselves in the midst of a battle for human survival.  The story begins where the story Killzone® 2 left off with Visari, the vicious Helghast dictator, lying dead at the feet of ISA soldiers Sev and Rico. However this war is far from won.  In the wake of Visari's death, Helghan has devolved into a world of political scheming, rapid infighting, and murder.  Now, the two most powerful men on Helghan are fighting for complete and utter dominance while Visari's vision of Helghan is in jeopardy.

With limited supplies and no re-enforcements, the ISA must now fight not to win a war, but to survive a lost one.

The ISA is strengthened by a host of new weapons and vehicles in the war to stop the Helghast, including the WASP missile launcher, aerial combat with jet packs, and intense gunfights on Intruders.  The landscape and terrain encountered is diverse, with noticeably detailed scenery – including nuclear wastelands, alien jungles, and arctic vistas.  Players can also now engage in a new Brutal Melee system and deliver a variety of close-quarters attacks to finish off enemies.

Timed with the launch of Killzone 3 is the new PlayStation Move Sharp Shooter, a peripheral that transforms the PlayStation Move motion controller into a sleek assault rifle.  Developed with input from game design experts at Guerrilla Games, the Sharp Shooter allows gamers to enjoy a new way to engage in the action.  Pairing the sharp shooter with the ability to engage in Stereoscopic 3D, players will enjoy one of the most truly immersive gameplay experiences available.
