The IU-UNC LogMBA Program Announces 2013 Graduates

CHAPEL HILL, N.C., Dec. 20, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The IU-UNC LogMBA program recognized its eighth class of graduates on December 19, 2013 at the Army and Navy Club in Washington, DC. Mr. Thomas J. Donohue, President and CEO of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, delivered the commencement address for the ceremony.

The Institute for Defense and Business (IDB) works in partnership with two top-20 business schools. The graduates earned a Master in Business Administration from Indiana University's Kelley School of Business and a Certificate in Global Supply Chain Leadership from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill's Kenan-Flagler Business School.

The IU-UNC LogMBA (originally developed as the LOGTECH MBA) is a two-year degree program in which students work together to master the global business knowledge and leadership skills needed to be successful in today's complex, globally responsive organizations. Approximately 80 percent of the academic work is accomplished online punctuated by four custom-designed residency sessions. This class attended two one-week residencies in Chapel Hill, NC, spent a week studying in Bloomington, IN, and traveled throughout Asia for a ten-day multi-country residency.

During the program's final capstone course, students demonstrated their business acumen, applying what they'd learned to real world issues and improving business operations, at DLA Distribution Susquehanna and U.S. Army Materiel Command's Corpus Christi and Crane Depots.

Two students received special recognition during the graduation ceremony:

• For demonstrated leadership during her MBA studies, Mrs. Jenna Frey, Northrop Grumman, received the E.B. Leedy Award, named in honor of the late Major General Leedy, USA (Ret.), a key member of the team that founded LOGTECH.
• For demonstrated and future potential to contribute to the field of defense logistics, Mr. Kerry McCarthy, LMI, received the William T. Powell, Jr. Scholarship award named in honor of the late founder and first president of the Institute for Defense and Business. The scholarship provided by Indiana University and the IDB is a continuation onto a dual master's degree at IU's Kelley School of Business, resulting in a Master in Global Supply Chain Management.
