The Jenzabar Foundation and Campus Compact Announce Winning Grantees to Sponsor Student Leadership Conferences
Three "Best in Class" Service Leadership Conferences in 2010 will help ensure a vibrant community of strong student leaders.
BOSTON, May 18 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Jenzabar Foundation and the national office of Campus Compact have just announced the awarding of grants that will create three "Best in Class" Student Service Leadership Conferences in 2010 to promote civic engagement and inspire future generations to make a difference. The winners include a collaborative of New England Campus Compacts in Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Vermont; Minnesota Campus Compact; and North Carolina Campus Compact.
Students will meet, network, and share best practices they have developed in student philanthropy and community service. Each conference will build off students' interests within service and engage them in a number of activities, from volunteer work and community outreach programs, to service learning and social entrepreneurship.
Campus Compact is a national coalition of more than 1,100 college and university presidents, representing some 6 million students, dedicated to promoting community service, civic engagement, and service-learning in higher education. As a public charity, The Jenzabar Foundation funds the good works and humanitarian efforts of student leaders serving others across the global community. Through their partnership, they are helping students involved in service reach their highest potential, and make the greatest impact on their beneficiaries during their collegiate experience.
In New England, a conference currently set for the first Saturday in October will bring together student leaders from throughout the region and will draw from 158 institutions and thousands of students engaged in community outreach. Following the conference, a Facebook page and listserv for civically-engaged students will foster sharing of best practices and problem-solving.
An intensive October retreat is planned by Minnesota Campus Compact in the form of a Midwest Student Civic Leadership Summit: "Best in Class" Organizing for Change. Attendees will be drawn from Campus Compact member institutions in all the Midwest states, including those that do not have state Compacts.
Finally, in a bold move aimed at enabling the greatest participation possible, North Carolina Campus Compact will host two conferences reaching students in North Carolina, Virginia (who has no Campus Compact), and South Carolina—whose Compact is relatively new. The first conference will be held on October 30th at NC Wesleyan University in Barton, NC, and the second November 6th at Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte, NC.

This year's regional student leadership conferences are the first fruit of the partnership between The Jenzabar Foundation and Campus Compact announced earlier this year to promote student philanthropy, humanitarian work, and community service. The organizations will work together to bring in additional partners and sponsors to fund these and future endeavors.
