The John Ritter Foundation for Aortic Health's annual An Evening From The Heart
NEW YORK, Oct. 25, 2023 /PRNewswire/ -- The John Ritter Foundation for Aortic Health has announced it will host its annual An Evening From The Heart - NYC on November 3, 2023, at LAVO.
In 2003, the world tragically lost actor John Ritter to a misdiagnosed thoracic aortic dissection. Although largely preventable, thousands of people die every year from this critical medical emergency. The John Ritter Foundation for Aortic Health (JRF) was established by John's widow, Amy Yasbeck, to raise awareness of thoracic aortic dissection through research, education, and advocacy.
An Evening From the Heart - NYC started eight years ago with the Petrera-Cohen family honoring the memory of their daughter, Olivia (Livie), who passed away before her second birthday from complications of a genetic aortic disorder. This year, the event will commemorate The John Ritter Foundation's 20-years of impact and John's life-saving legacy, while honoring the memory of Livie.
In addition, The JRF will share the story of esteemed sportswriter and LGBTQ+ rights activist Grant Wahl and his family. Wahl shockingly passed away last winter after he collapsed from a thoracic aortic dissection while reporting on the World Cup in Qatar.
Funds raised at the event will support JRF's ongoing mission to share vital information with medical providers and the wider aortic community, and advance research initiatives aimed at saving lives. Fundraising also extends to the New York City Marathon on November 5, where "Team Ritter" will have 20 runners.
