The Latin Recording Academy® Announces Newly Elected Officers to the Board of Trustees
MIAMI, June 28, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- The Latin Recording Academy ® (www.latingrammy.com) has elected new officers to its Board of Trustees, it was announced today by Latin Recording Academy President/CEO Gabriel Abaroa Jr. Acclaimed conductor/composer/producer Luis Cobos will continue to serve as Chair, GRAMMY® and Latin GRAMMY®-winning engineer Antonio "Moogie" Canazio was elected as Vice Chair, Emmy® winner and Latin GRAMMY nominee Mary Black-Suarez will serve as Secretary, and businessman Luis Villanueva was elected Treasurer. Additionally, Colombian composer/producer Kike Santander will continue to serve as Chair Emeritus. Acclaimed Spanish conductor, composer and producer Luis Cobos will continue his duties as Chair of the Board of Trustees for The Latin Recording Academy. Cobos has successfully released albums throughout the world, many of which include hits that have reached platinum status, and, he has worked with notable international artists such as Jose Carreras and Placido Domingo. He has conducted prestigious orchestras such as the Royal Philharmonic, Los Angeles Symphony, and Moscow Symphony Orchestra, among others.
Hailing from Brazil, 30-year industry veteran, and GRAMMY as well as Latin GRAMMY winner Antonio "Moogie" Canazio is one of the most sought after engineers in the industry. He has worked with a variety of artists, including Maria Bethania, Eric Clapton, Luis Miguel, Barbra Streisand, and Sara Vaughan. Canazio has been an advocate and a champion of The Latin Recording Academy since its inception and has served on numerous screening, craft and blue-ribbon committees for both The Latin Recording Academy and The Recording Academy.
With more than 25 years in the television industry, Mary Black-Suarez has produced some of the most recognized and influential television programs in the Latin world, including "Premio Lo Nuestro," "Nuestra Belleza Latina," "Que Dice La Gente?" and "Calle Ocho," among others. She is a four-time regional Emmy award winner and has also received a nomination for Premio TVyNovelas and a Latin GRAMMY nomination for Best Long Form Music Video. She is the president and founder of MBS Entertainment, a production company that specializes in Hispanic programming, and she has produced a variety of events for The Latin Recording Academy such as the Special Merit Awards Ceremony and The Latin Recording Academy Person of the Year tribute honoring Juan Gabriel in 2009.
Currently, Villanueva is the President/CEO of Somos TV. Venezuelan native and businessman Luis Villanueva has a strong background in finance and TV syndication. Villanueva previously served as President of Venevision International and VeneMusic as well as a board member of Claxson, Cervecerias Peruanas Backus & Johnston, the Latin Forum of the Florida International University, and the Universidad de la Argentina.
