The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) Hosts Ninth Annual Leukemia Cup Regatta with Guest Speaker Wendy Schmidt

SAN FRANCISCO, Sept. 3, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Greater Bay Area Chapter will be hosting its ninth annual Leukemia Cup Regatta on September 20-21, 2014 at The San Francisco Yacht Club (SFYC) in Belvedere, Calif. The event will begin with the VIP Dinner on September 20 with special guest speaker Wendy Schmidt, president of the Schmidt Family Foundation and co-founder of the Schmidt Ocean Institute, and continue on September 21 with the Leukemia Cup Regatta and awards celebration. The Leukemia Cup Regatta supports LLS's mission to find a cure for leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma, and improve the quality of life for patients and their families.

With the Leukemia Cup Regatta, sailors from around the Bay Area are able to raise more than just sails to honor local blood cancer patients and survivors, recognized as honorary skippers during the two-day event. Sailors of all levels are encouraged to fundraise, participate and attend the VIP Dinner, Regatta and post-race festivities. The VIP Dinner on Saturday evening will feature a reception with Schmidt as the guest speaker, silent auction, dinner and live auction.

On the second day of the event, the Regatta will start with a Sponsor Champagne Breakfast at 9 a.m. at the SFYC and sponsor guests will board spectator boats at approximately 11:30 a.m. The Regatta Awards Celebration and Deck Party will begin at 2 p.m. The registration fee for the Leukemia Cup Regatta is $100, which will be added to the sailors' personal fundraising total.

Non-racing sailors who want to participate can sign up for the Cruising Class's Powerboat Fleet Squadron for a $75 registration fee, which will also be added to the sailors' personal fundraising total. Members of the Cruising Class will host sponsor guests and honorary skippers aboard their boat and take part in an on-the-water parade and treasure hunt.

VIP Dinner seats may be purchased for $1,000 per person by calling 415-625-1132. Fundraisers may qualify for seats if they raise at least $2,500 per seat with a two seat maximum.
