SAN FRANCISCO, April 6, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Greater Bay Area Chapter launched its 2016 Bay Area Man & Woman of the Year fundraising campaign on March 29, 2016 at its Kickoff Party at The University Club of San Francisco. This year the Bay Area campaign has nine candidates competing to raise funds for blood cancer research and cures.
The Man & Woman of the Year campaign is an annual 10-week fundraising competition between community leaders united by one goal: to use their leadership skills to raise funds to help blood cancer patients live longer and more fulfilling lives. The nine candidates are competing in honor of the 2016 Bay Area Boy & Girl of the Year, Preston and Edith, who are both blood cancer survivors. Every dollar counts as one vote and the titles are awarded to the man and woman with the most votes at the end of the campaign.
As part of this year's Man & Woman of the Year campaign, LLS is initiating the Student of the Year and All Star campaigns. The Student of the Year campaign is a seven-week fundraising competition between student pairs and their teams who are competing for a $1,000 scholarship to the college or university of their choice. The All Star campaign is a national fundraising competition where select Man & Woman of the Year alumni represent their local market and compete against All Star candidates from across the country. The All Star alum who raises the most money during the campaign is named the National Man & Woman of the Year All Star, which will be announced in a celebratory national webcast in July.
The 2016 Bay Area Man & Woman of the Year, Student of the Year and All Star candidates include:
