SAN FRANCISCO, Aug. 23, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) will be kicking off its 2016 Light The Night® Walk campaign throughout the Greater Bay Area with the Napa Valley Walk on September 24, 2016 at 5 p.m. PT at Oxbow Commons. The Light the Night Walk is a powerful and unique fundraising campaign for LLS, which brings together families and communities to honor blood cancer survivors and loved ones lost to the disease. The event also shines a light on the importance of finding cures and providing access to treatments for blood cancer patients.
The Light the Night Walk will be hosting the following events throughout the Greater Bay Area:
Napa Valley Light the Night Walk – September 24, 2016
Oxbow Commons, Napa, Calif.
North Bay Light the Night Walk – October 22, 2016
Petaluma City Hall, Petaluma, Calif.
East Bay Light the Night Walk – November 5, 2016
Civic Park, Walnut Creek, Calif.
San Francisco Light the Night Walk – November 10, 2016
AT&T Park, San Francisco, Calif.
The Light the Night Walk is a family-friendly, non-competitive, two-mile walk route and is accessible to all fitness levels. There is no minimum for fundraising, but participants who raise $100 or more will become a Champion for Cures and will receive a t-shirt, dinner and an illuminated lantern on the night of the walk. Walkers who receive an illuminated lantern will show how their lives have been affected by blood cancer – white if they're a survivor, red if they're a supporter and gold if they're walking in memory of a loved one. Cancer survivors in attendance at all Light the Night Walks are honored guests and will receive these items regardless of their fundraising level.
Each of the Light the Night Walks will kick off with food and festivities at 5 p.m. and the walk will start at 7 p.m. The festivities will include music, dinner for the Champions for Cures, a team photo area, kid-friendly activities, a Reflections of Life tent featuring the stories of Honored and Remembered Heroes, a Survivor Lounge and more. Each walk will also recognize an Honored Hero, a local blood cancer patient or survivor who is recognized for his or her bravery and courage.
