The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) to Host 10th Annual Bay Area Leukemia Cup Regatta with Guest Speaker Joe Lacob

SAN FRANCISCO, July 14, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Greater Bay Area Chapter will be hosting its 10^th Annual Bay Area Leukemia Cup Regatta on October 17-18, 2015 at The San Francisco Yacht Club (SFYC) in Belvedere, Calif. The Leukemia Cup Regatta VIP Dinner will take place on October 17 with special guest speaker Joe Lacob, owner, co-executive chairman, CEO and governor of the Golden State Warriors, co-managing member of the Golden State Warriors' ownership group and strategic advisor to Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers. The event will then continue on October 18 with the Leukemia Cup Regatta competition and festivities. Celebrating its 10^th year, the Bay Area Leukemia Cup Regatta has raised over $5.1 million since 2006 to support LLS's mission to find a cure for blood cancers and improve the quality of life for patients and their families.

With the Leukemia Cup Regatta, sailors from around the Bay Area are able to raise more than just sails to honor local blood cancer patients and survivors, recognized as honorary skippers, during the two-day event. Sailors of all levels are encouraged to fundraise, participate in and attend the VIP Dinner, Leukemia Cup Regatta and post-race festivities. This year's honorary skippers include Douglas Holmes, Drake Jensen, Steve Johnson, Chris Kostanecki, Rhett Krawitt, Brit Lacey, Chris Laub, Campbell Nolan, Bernard O'Driscoll, Lynn Spiller and Robert Wilson. The campaign kicked off on June 18, 2015 at the SFYC with guest speaker and world champion sailor, Paul Cayard.

This year will be the inaugural year of the Perkins Corporate Challenge, a sailing competition among prominent Bay Area companies to show united support in seeking a cure for blood cancers. On October 17, corporate teams of four will compete on J/22 class sailboats to win the Thomas Perkins Trophy, which will be presented to the winning team at the VIP Dinner that evening. On October 18, the Leukemia Cup Regatta will begin with a Sponsor Breakfast at 10 a.m. at the SFYC and boats will board at approximately 11:30 a.m. Non-racing activities will include an on-the-water parade of the power boats, which will host sponsors and honorary skippers. The Leukemia Cup Regatta Awards Celebration and BBQ will begin at 2 p.m.

Registration for the 10^th Annual Leukemia Cup Regatta is now open at www.leukemiacup.org/gba and is $125 for sailboats and $100 for power boats, which will be added to the individuals' personal fundraising total. VIP Dinner seats may be purchased for $1,000 per person by calling 415-625-1139. Fundraisers may qualify for seats if they raise at least $2,500 per seat with a two seat maximum.
