The Michele DeMeo Living Well Foundation Aims to Provide Encouragement and Support to Patients with Terminal Illnesses

COCONUT CREEK, Fla., Jan. 6, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- In spite of advances in modern medicine, each year millions of people are still diagnosed with terminal illnesses. These conditions wreak havoc not only on the lives of the patients who are diagnosed but also on their loved ones. The Michele DeMeo Living Well Foundation exists to bring encouragement and support to them. The Foundation seeks to show these patients and their families that life does not have to end after the diagnosis. Rather, like the Foundation's namesake, Michele DeMeo, they can choose to live well by their own definition.

At the age of 37, with the best part of her life before her, Michele DeMeo was diagnosed with ALS and given eight months to live. She could have chosen to give in to the disease and simply wait for death to come. However, she chose to not let the disease stand in the way of her living well and living a fully meaningful life. Four years after her diagnosis, and now also dealing with brain cancer and bone cancer, Michele continues to inspire others. In 2012, she wrote a book titled "The Beauty of a Slow Death: Understanding Acceptance and Learning to Live Differently Can Lead to Peace."
