The Nation's Mayors to Gather in Dallas This Summer

WASHINGTON, June 4, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Under the leadership of USCM President Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson and host Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings, more than 200 of the nation's mayors from cities large and small will convene in Dallas at the OMNI Dallas Hotel to urge Congress to work in a bipartisan fashion to spur job creation and economic growth in America's cities and metropolitan areas, many of which are still plagued with high unemployment.

While in Dallas, during the meeting, mayors from all over the country will come together to discuss public policy issues impacting residents in cities large and small.  The economic health of the nation's cities, transportation, education, climate change, housing, help for returning Veterans, the minimum wage and Sports & Race top this year's agenda.  Mayors will release new economic data showing economic output and jobs numbers for each of the nation's 363 metropolitan areas.  Mayors will also hear from several guest speakers including Maria Shriver who will discuss The Shriver Report, and what mayors can do to address the 1 in 3 American women living on the brink of poverty. 

On the final day of the meeting, the mayors will debate and vote on policy resolutions to forward to Congress and the Administration in the hopes of shaping federal legislation.  Approved resolutions will be available at www.usmayors.org following the meeting.
