The Olympic Club Foundation Announces 2012 Pre-U.S. Open Benefit Golf Tournament

SAN FRANCISCO, Dec. 13, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Olympic Club Foundation, the philanthropic arm of The Olympic Club of San Francisco, today announced their Special Edition benefit golf tournament to be played on Monday, April 9, 2012 on The Lake Course at The Olympic Club  – just nine weeks prior to the U.S. Open.

The Lake Course at The Olympic Club has been recognized by Golf Magazine as one of the Top 100 Courses in the U.S. and by Golf Week in its list of "America's 100 Best Classical Courses."  The 2012 U.S. Open (June 11 -17, 2012) will mark the 5th time the championship has been played at The Olympic Club.

"This is a unique opportunity for any golfer who has ever watched the U.S. Open on television and tried to imagine what it would be like to actually play the course," said Steve Carnevale, President of the Board of The Olympic Club Foundation.  "Our benefit tournament gives non-Olympic Club members across the country the chance not only to play The Lake Course at The Olympic Club, but to play it in U.S. Open condition before the touring professionals begin their practice rounds.  We're providing the ultimate 'I played there!' experience."

The Lake Course plays 7,060 yards from the new championship tees, with a course rating of 75.7 and a slope rating of 143. Participants in the benefit tournament will not be required to play from the championship tees but will have the option to play it like the pros. Forecaddies for each foursome will be provided. The tournament format will include a shotgun start, special on course tee to green competitions and prizes, and a post play celebration in the historic Lakeside Clubhouse.

Registration fees for the tournament range from $2,500 for an individual golfer to $25,000 for a Platinum Sponsorship that includes multiple golfers, corporate recognition throughout all marketing platforms and potential naming opportunities for subsequent grants provided by The Olympic Club Foundation.

The oldest athletic club in the United States, The Olympic Club has a history of philanthropy dating back to the Civil War in 1860. Twenty years ago, the Club formally created The Winged 'O' Foundation, now known as The Olympic Club Foundation.  A 501(c)(3) public charity, the Foundation's purpose is to make grants to schools and organizations providing organized athletics for at-risk and under-served youth in challenged neighborhoods throughout the nine San Francisco Bay Area counties (Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Solano and Sonoma).
