The Open Group Announces Expanded Speaker Lineup for Seattle Conference

SAN FRANCISCO, Jan. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- The Open Group today announced the plenary agenda and expanded speaker lineup for The Open Group Conference Seattle 2010, to be held on February 1-5, 2010 at the Grand Hyatt Seattle. The conference will feature enterprise architects, security practitioners and industry analysts who will address some of the key issues in IT today with regards to enterprise architecture (EA), service-oriented architecture (SOA), information security and cloud computing.

Enterprise Architecture

The Enterprise Architecture Plenary and Track sessions, being held February 1 - 3, will examine the future role of EA as it evolves to more closely align with business decision making at a "boardroom" level. Three days of keynotes, interactive panel discussions and case studies will be delivered by industry experts, including: Michael Rollins, research director at the Burton Group; Ed Harrington, COO, Model Driven Solutions; Bob Weisman, CEO, Build The Vision Inc.; David Houlding, healthcare enterprise architect at Intel; Henry Peyret, principal analyst at Forrester Research and Tim Westbrook, managing director, EA Directions.

SOA

A new special series of five tutorials on SOA prepared by The Open Group's SOA Work Group will be offered in Seattle. The first tutorial, "The Impact of SOA on Business," is aimed at everyone concerned with the decision to use SOA, whether in a business or technical role, and with the subsequent development of service-oriented architectures. Each tutorial is designed to build on the previous ones, with the content becoming increasingly technical as the series progresses. Tutorial themes include governance, reference architecture, the use of standards such as TOGAF™, and implementation. In addition to the SOA tutorial series, Thomas Erl, series editor of the Prentice Hall Service-Oriented Computing Series and editor of SOA Magazine, will present a workshop on how "Next Generation SOA" represents perhaps the most significant milestone in the evolution of service-oriented computing to-date.

Cloud Computing

The all-day Cloud Computing Track taking place on Wednesday, February 3, will feature a live debate on the security of cloud computing.  Peter Coffee, director of Platform Research, Salesforce.com, will argue the case for the inherent security features in cloud computing and Kirk Bailey, CISO, University of Washington, will make a case for the security vulnerabilities in the cloud. The debate will be moderated by Dave Lounsbury, vice president of Government Programs and managing director of Research and Technology at The Open Group. Additional cloud experts presenting at the conference, include Tim Brown, chief security architect and distinguished engineer, Security & Compliance Business Unit, CA Inc.; Jim Reavis, co-founder, Cloud Security Alliance; Dennis Hurst, senior security engineer, HP; Niall Browne, CISO, LiveOps.

Security

The Security Practitioners Conference, being held February 2–3, will focus on the evolution of information security management from an art to a science, with several sessions dedicated to developing realistic and efficient security metrics based on real-world experiences.  Speakers include Kip Boyle, CISO at Pemco Insurance; Phil Schachter, vice president of Security and Risk Management for Burton Group; Vicente Aceituno, CEO of the Information Security Management Maturity Model (ISM3) Consortium; Steve Whitlock, chief security architect at Boeing; and Dan Hitchcock, senior program manager at Microsoft.
