ATLANTA, Dec. 30, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- Digital Assent's self-service patient check-in and patient education solution, the PatientPad™, won the "2010 Cool Technology of the Year" award presented by TechAmerica and the Technology Association of Georgia at TechAmerica's annual Spirit of Endeavor Awards. Company founder and CEO Andrew Ibbotson was also nominated for the "Outstanding Leadership" award.
"We are deeply honored to be selected from such an impressive list of nominees and finalists," commented Ibbotson. Around 200 of the state's technology leaders attended the eighth annual event which saw a record number of nominations for the awards. Open to both TechAmerica members and non-members, the event recognized companies and individuals for significant accomplishments in the technology industry.
"One of life's biggest frustrations is going to the doctor's office, filling out the same information multiple times on a paper clipboard, and then sitting in the waiting room leafing through old magazines while you wait to see the doctor," said Ibbotson. "This is the problem we set out to fix," he added.
In the United States, patients make more than 1 billion doctors visits each year and currently less than one percent of medical practices have any kind of automated patient check-in solution. "Given the growing pervasiveness of self-service technologies in other markets, the exploding popularity of touch-screen devices like the iPad, and roughly $36 billion in government incentives to implement electronic health record solutions, the PatientPad™ is a timely and relevant solution," Ibbotson explained. "Our adoption rate is over 90 percent and our waiting list of practices wanting to implement the PatientPad™ extends well into next year."
The Digital Assent executive team is known for innovation in the technology industry. Prior to Digital Assent, Ibbotson served as founder and CEO of Synthis Corporation from 1999 until 2009. During his tenure at Synthis, Ibbotson and Digital Assent co-founder Tim Collins led the development and launch of an interactive advertising and selling solution which grew to nearly $500 million per month in sales transactions before being acquired by a multi-billion dollar, market-leading software company.
"With a record number of nominations, this was truly one of our best Spirit of Endeavor competitions in the history of the awards," said Jonathan Pine, chairman of the TechAmerica Georgia executive committee. Past winners of TechAmerica's Spirit of Endeavor Awards include Cisco, Scientific Atlanta, Cbeyond, Definition 6, CardioMEMS, Firethorn and EMS Technologies. The other finalists selected for this year's "Cool Technology" award were: Intercontinental Hotels Group, Nanolumens, Jigsaw Meeting and Toomah.
TechAmerica is the technology industry's largest advocacy organization, representing approximately 1,500 member companies of all sizes from the public and commercial sectors of the economy. The Technology Association of Georgia is a leading technology industry association dedicated to the promotion and economic advancement of the state's technology industry.
