The Rogosin Institute Opens New Dialysis Center in Queens

NEW YORK, Oct. 13, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Rogosin Institute is bringing dialysis closer to home for patients who need it by opening a new dialysis center in Auburndale, Queens. The Opening Reception, held Wednesday October 12, 2011 was attended by Helen Marshall, Queens Borough President, Paola Miceli, Director, Health, Human and Senior Services and other government officials. The center can accommodate 232 patients. In addition to dialysis, the center will provide home dialysis training and referrals for kidney transplantation.

More than 10 percent of Americans, or more than 20 million people, have chronic kidney disease and more than 380,000 have end stage kidney disease requiring dialysis*. Hemodialysis can take three to four hours, at least three times weekly, which can greatly impact a patient's lifestyle.

The 12,000-square-foot facility is staffed with 16 full-time medical professionals and will be open from 5:30 a.m. to 11 p.m., Monday through Saturday. The innovative design for the center provides more privacy and personal space for an optimal treatment setting

The facility was made possible with a challenge grant provided by Rogosin board members, William and Linda Macaulay. The Macaulays matched the first $750,000 raised for the project by Rogosin. The facility cost $3.5 million to build and equip.

Rogosin's dialysis capacity is expanding further with construction of a new dialysis facility located in the upper west side of Manhattan. This facility is expected to open in the Fall of 2012.
