The Salonniere Announces Results Of Summer Party Poll

AUSTIN, Texas, May 20, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Planning a summer party? You may want to put away anything that might make you blush.

According to a national survey of party proclivities commissioned by The Salonniere, the first and only dedicated source for entertaining inspiration from the world's top party experts, people really do snoop at parties. Of the 605 men and women, ages 25-54, who were surveyed, 40 percent said they have snooped inside a medicine chest or drawer while attending a party in someone's home. One percent admitted to walking off with something that didn't belong to them. Given that 7 percent of the men and 2 percent of the women queried said they have hit on someone else's spouse at a party, that 'something' may well have been someone else's date.

Among the other key findings of The Salonniere Summer Party Poll:

• 40% of respondents reported having too much to drink at a party and acting regrettably
• 23% have spilled red wine in a host's home
• 17% have broken something
• 14% have gotten frisky with a date in the host's bathroom or bedroom

Given the chance to travel back in time to attend a party, most chose one of the most famous summer parties in history, Woodstock. When asked about the results, Graham Nash, who performed at the 1969 music festival with Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, said he was not surprised.

"Woodstock has come to symbolize a time when the future looked bright," said Nash. "The fact that a half million people could get together for three days of music and mud with no violence was an example of 'the way it could be.'"

How will people celebrate during the summer of 2014? According to the survey, they'll be attending and hosting a lot of parties.

Seventy-seven percent said they go to at least three parties annually, with 20 percent saying they attend 10 or more parties per year. Eighty-six percent give between one and five parties each year and almost 9 percent say they host 10 or more parties per year. Outdoor parties are the preferred way to entertain in the summer months with 50 percent favoring barbecues, 19 percent opting for al fresco dinner parties and 12 percent preferring pool parties.

Regardless of the type of party, most party guests want giggles with their giggle water. When asked who they'd most like to sit between at a dinner party, the top picks were funny ladies, Ellen DeGeneres and Tina Fey, each of whom received 32 percent of the vote. Other picks were: 

• President Obama (30%)
• Pope Francis (22%)
• Bill Gates (21%)
• Kate Middleton (17%)
• Oprah Winfrey (15%)
• George Clooney (13%)
