While the designers initially focused on consumers' desire for greater convenience, the engineers also prioritized the need for lighter modules. The StowSmart floor console offers reduced component complexity and a weight savings of approximately 30 percent. 

Practical features optimize storage space
The StowSmart floor console is a key feature in the Innovation Demonstrator 2016 (ID16) concept car at this year's International Motor Show (IAA) in Frankfurt along with other unique storage options for occupants in both rows. The five modules in ID16 – StowSmart, CatchBin, Coolbox a removable beverage holder, and the sliding compartment for large bags – are all well placed and easily accessible. The use of these modules results in improved storage space and ergonomic adjustment; optimized packaging space; reduced weight; as well as easy to clean materials.
