The Veterans Consortium Announces The Departure Of Executive Director, Ed Glabus And Appointment Of New Executive Director, Jim Carlsen

WASHINGTON, March 21, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- It is with a mix of sadness and gratitude that The Veterans Consortium (TVC) Executive Board of Directors announces the departure of Executive Director Ed Glabus.  Since 2015, Ed has played a critical role in the development and success of the organization.  He will be missed for his inspirational leadership and tireless hours worked on behalf of veterans and their families, caregivers and survivors.  The entire Executive Board and TVC Staff wish him the best of luck in his next endeavor on the leadership team of a Congressionally-chartered foundation.

During Ed's four-year tenure TVC has achieved exponential growth in its federal Veterans Pro Bono Program cases before the U.S. Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims, and in other opportunities for its TVC National Volunteer Corps℠ to serve veterans and their loved ones.  Ed passionately stewarded TVC Staff through this change while strengthening alignment with TVC mission partners.  Among his accomplishments, Ed was also responsible for leading the following initiatives and milestones:

• Launch of TVC's Discharge Upgrade Program℠ in 2016, a national initiative to meet the legal needs of service men and women impacted by post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and traumatic brain injuries (TBI), which has completed more than 2,000 intakes to date;
• Launch of the annual TVC Legal Muster℠ in 2016 and the weekly Veterans Pro Bono Legal Clinic at the DC VA Medical Center in 2017 as part of a Medical-Legal Partnership, where more than 1,000 veterans and their loved ones have been helped in its first 22 months; and
• Induction into the Catalogue for Philanthropy as "One of the Best" charities, recognition as "Best in America" with the annual Seal of Approval by America's Most Cost-Effective Charities, and award of the GuideStar Gold Seal of Transparency.

Effective immediately, Jim Carlsen will take the helm as Executive Director.  Jim most recently served as the Director of Program Operations for TVC and prior to that he was a Senior Fellow in TVC's National Volunteer Corps℠.  He brings a broad range of experience to the organization and will continue to do so in his new role.

Jim started his career as an infantry officer in the United States Marines Corps in 1975, and later attended law school on the Funded Law Education Program at the University of Notre Dame, graduating in 1981.  He served as Chief Defense Counsel for the 2nd Marine Division, Senior Trial Counsel for the main island of Japan, and as the senior Marine Defense Counsel before the U.S. military appellate courts.  After active duty, Jim practiced in the Washington office of McGuire Woods LLP concentrating in government claims and civil litigation.  He was recruited by one of his clients and served as Assistant General Counsel for Westinghouse Corporation.  Following acquisition by Northrop Grumman Corporation, Jim served as Senior Counsel and spent his final ten years with Northrop as an executive in charge of Northrop's Underseas Systems division and later its International Systems division.  He attended the LLM (Tax) program at Georgetown University Law School and is an alumnus of the Harvard Business School Executive Training program.  He has been admitted to practice in the States of Indiana, Virginia, and Washington, D.C., and before the U.S. Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces, and the federal courts of Virginia, Washington, D.C., and Maryland.  He is also certified to practice before the Department of Veterans Affairs.
