RADNOR, Pa., Oct. 28, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- The VWR Foundation, a charitable organization dedicated to giving back to the science community, distributed 15 grants totaling $138,000 during the third quarter of 2015. The Foundation supports organizations and programs that are in alignment with its three strategic priorities – research, health and well-being, and science education.
One of the recipients included the Rochester Museum and Science Center (RMSC) in Rochester, NY, whose mission is to stimulate broad community interest and understanding of science and technology, and its impact – past, present and future – on our lives. The grant will provide funds for the Ladies 1st, STEM for Girls program.
Ryan Shear, Director of Major Gifts at RMSC, commented, "Thanks to support from the VWR Foundation, the RMSC is able to offer programs that enable girls to gain the education, training, and skills needed to succeed in the fields of science, technology, engineering and math. It is important that all children are confident and eager to continue education in these fields that are so vital to our future, especially girls, since females are vastly underrepresented in science-related occupations."
Noel Vache, VWR Foundation Director added, "Inspiring young minds is something that the RMSC does every day. The Center's recurring exhibits and events are a mainstay of Rochester culture and family activity, and its science camps and educational programs truly demonstrate its dedication to the community. The VWR Foundation is proud to support scholarships to students so they can experience this education outside the classroom ensuring that this opportunity is available to young minds across income levels."
