But this meal is exclusively for the doggy guests boarding at Best Friends 42 pet care centers (www.bestfriendspetcare.com) on turkey day.
For the sixth year, Best Friends pet care centers across the U.S. are hosting a special feast on Thanksgiving Day for family pets boarding over the holiday. The meal features slices of turkey atop turkey-and-rice dog food and is trimmed with dogs' favorite vegetables and a sweet potato doggy biscuit for dessert.
"We know pets are part of the family," said Renee Coughlin, Vice President of Marketing for Best Friends Pet Care. "If they were home, they'd be sharing in the family meal. That's why we've been preparing a special Thanksgiving feast for our boarding guests for years."
The holiday fun kicks off Wednesday morning, when clients checking in their pets are greeted by the aroma of turkey slow-roasting in the lobby. Best Friends staffers don chef's hats and aprons and a few lucky dogs even get to taste-test the goodies before the big day.
And, in the spirit of the holiday, Best Friends staff members are making extra turkeys and delivering them to local animal shelters so that homeless pets have the chance to enjoy a special treat, too.
"We wish every dog could have a special treat on Thanksgiving, especially those waiting to be brought into a loving home," added Coughlin. "We're so happy to be able to share the holiday with them."
Among the many beneficiary shelters are the Baypath Humane Society in Hopkinton MA, the Ramapo-Bergen Animal Refuge in Oakland NJ, the Southside Animal Shelter in Indianapolis IN, Mecklenburg Animal Care & Control in Charlotte NC, and the Front Street Animal Shelter in Sacramento, CA.
