TI ARM® Cortex™-A8 Based Processors Architectures get Windows Embedded CE Support from Adeneo Embedded
BELLEVUE, Wash., and ECULLY, France, Nov. 3, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- Adeneo Embedded, the Microsoft Windows Embedded Gold Partner awarded “Windows Embedded Training Partner of the Year” and “Windows Embedded Systems Integrator of the Year” from 2007 to 2009 in North America and Europe, announced today the public availability of the Windows Embedded CE 6.0 R3 “Unified” Board Support Package (BSP) for Texas Instruments Incorporated (TI) ARM® Cortex™-A8 based devices including OMAP35x processors, AM35x and AM37x Sitara™ ARM microprocessors (MPUs) and DM37x DaVinci™ digital media processors.
- The Windows Embedded CE 6.0 R3 unified BSP is designed to enable efficient development for original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) developing embedded devices on this platform. The architecture of the BSP is fully compliant with Microsoft Production-Quality OEM Adaptation Layer (PQOAL) specifications to provide clear separations between CPU-dependent and board-dependent features, helping OEMs focus on adapting only the specific portions of code related to their custom design.
- The unified BSP architecture provides full compatibility with all the existing TI ARM Cortex-A8 processors and ensures OEMs smoothly transition between the different architectures. Additionally, it simplifies maintenance and support to OEMs, ensuring reliability and robustness of the reference BSP across 10 different processors.
- This BSP is fully available as a free source code download on the Adeneo Embedded website (click here to be redirected to appropriate webpage) today and will be available on the TI website in Q4-2010. Customers can register on the Adeneo Embedded website to access the source code and exclusive discounts on Adeneo Embedded support, training and engineering services.
"The richness of features provided by the TI’s AM35x and AM37x Sitara ARM MPUs, OMAP35x processor and DM37x DaVinci digital media processors, combined with the Adeneo Embedded system integration expertise on Windows Embedded CE for Sitara ARM MPUs, OMAP™ processors and DaVinci digital media processors is an excellent solution to ensure OEMs’ design success," said Yannick Chammings, chief executive officer, Adeneo Embedded. "Beyond the availability of this new reference solution, OEMs can benefit from the expertise of our international engineering teams through training, consulting or turnkey development. As a participant of the TI Elite Design House Network, we combine intimate knowledge of TI solutions with expertise in Windows Embedded CE development and system integration to secure smooth and efficient progression of OEMs in their designs.”
“Adeneo Embedded fully capitalizes on low-power, scalable processors provided by the TI OMAP, Sitara ARM MPUs and DaVinci digital media processors to help developers design confidently and efficiently,” said Jake Alamat, Sitara ARM MPUs marketing director, TI. “By offering expert training and support, Adeneo Embedded is able to provide flexibility and design security to customers.”
“The componentized, real-time Windows Embedded CE 6.0 R3 operating system enables OEMs of consumer and enterprise devices to differentiate with rich user experiences and streamlined connectivity to the world of Windows-based PCs, servers and online services,” said Kim Chau, senior partner manager for Windows Embedded and Microsoft Corp. “We’re pleased to work with Adeneo Embedded on a board support package for TI’s ARM Cortex-A8-based devices, such as Sitara ARM MPUs, OMAP processors and DaVinci digital media processors to help OEMs drive custom designs to needs of their customers, while reducing time-to-market and other associated costs.”
Unified BSP concept to ensure robustness and adaptability – By applying over 10 years of experience in reference BSP development, Adeneo Embedded worked with TI to design a “unified BSP” architecture to provide a structuring code that isolates common code from specific portions within the OMAP35x processors, AM35x and AM37x Sitara ARM MPUs and DM37x DaVinci digital media processors. With this approach, Adeneo Embedded worked with TI to secure robustness and adaptability of the BSP by allowing efficient maintenance of the code for both architectures as well as smooth migration between OMAP processors, Sitara ARM MPUs and DaVinci digital media processors.
PQOAL compliance for easy adaptation to custom designs – Due to compliance with Microsoft’s PQOAL and Production Quality Device (PQD) specifications, Adeneo Embedded BSPs are cost-effective solutions for developing custom designs on TI devices under the Windows Embedded CE platform with minimal redesign. Portions of the BSP handling board features are required to be reviewed and redesigned while all codes linked to the core CPU can be reused without modifications.
Fully-featured to cover all customer applications – The unified BSP includes the drivers for various peripherals integrated in OMAP35x processors, AM35x and AM37x Sitara ARM MPUs and DM37x DaVinci digital media processors, such as advanced power management, wireless communications or hardware accelerate OpenGL/OpenVG and Silverlight support enabling specific targeting of virtually all types of custom solutions.
Strong reliability to warrant the best quality – Adeneo Embedded BSPs are qualified using the Windows Embedded CE Test Kit (CETK) and are designed to fully utilize the advanced features of the evaluation modules (EVMs) kits such as multimedia, power management and communications performance, including rich graphical Silverlight-based demo applications.
Adeneo Embedded and TI are committed to providing strong and reliable solutions for the Windows Embedded CE platform, including Windows Embedded CE 6.0 R3, on TI processors. Additionally, Adeneo Embedded operates as a member of the TI developer network, providing training, support and system integration services around Windows Embedded CE on OMAP processors, Sitara ARM MPUs and DaVinci digital media processors and helping OEMs secure design efficiency using Windows Embedded CE with TI technologies.
